Shell2Go

Connection guide

Firewall and VPN setup

Shell2Go is a hosted service. SSH, SFTP, and FTP connections are opened by Shell2Go's server, so your remote server sees Shell2Go's static outbound IP address—not the address of your phone, computer, home network, or personal VPN.

Static outbound IP74.208.201.212

When an allowlist is required

If your server or firewall accepts connections only from approved IP addresses, add 74.208.201.212 to its allowlist for the SSH, SFTP, or FTP port you use. You only need to add it once per firewall policy.

Why your VPN address does not apply

Your browser communicates with shell2go.com over HTTPS. The separate remote-server connection begins from Shell2Go's infrastructure, so enabling a VPN on your device does not change the source IP seen by the destination server.

Host-key verification still matters

An IP allowlist controls which network addresses may connect. SSH host-key verification separately confirms the identity of the server. Compare the SHA-256 fingerprint shown by Shell2Go with a value from your hosting provider or another trusted channel before trusting it.
